 2017 Preview 


       Madison County completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-1 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region seven, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Madison County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to West Limestone by a score of 28-26.

       Since 2010, Madison County has gone a combined 49-32. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Madison County has managed to compile a record of 121-145. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 4A and 233rd in the AHSAA.

       The Tigers are led by head coach Scott Sharp who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at Madison County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sharp.

       Coach Sharp's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 35-32 (52.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sharp's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times .

       The Madison County Tigers will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2017 season.

       The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

      Senior Tae Provens returns after rushing for 600 yards on 98 carries and scoring 8 touchdowns.

      Senior Bryce Gurley also returns after catching 21 passes for 369 yards and 5 touchdowns.

       The Tigers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Etowah on Friday, September 1 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Etowah Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 5A region seven. The Blue Devils lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Mortimer Jordan by a score of 44-30.

       Madison County and Etowah have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 4-4-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2016 with Etowah winning by a score of 35-10.

       Madison County returns 4A All-State Senior receiver Bryce Gurley. He was named to the second team last season. The Tigers also return Senior running back Tae Provens. He was named to the second team.

       College prospects include: Matthew Flint (6-0, 210) outside linebacker, Tae Provens (6-0, 183) athlete,
